Spiced Butter Frosting

1/4 cup butter, margarine, or other shortening
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups confectioners' sugar (sifted)
4-6 tablespoons cream (scalded)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Cream butter, adding salt, cloves and nutmeg. Blend in alternately sugar with cream. Add vanilla. Beat until creamy.

Makes enough to frost 8 or 9 inch round layer cake.
