Shortbread Cookies

Recipe from: The Story of Pure Vanilla, rewritten by R.C. Schlotterer.

Blend shortening and sugar thoroughly; add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to first mixture with flavorings, nut meats; mix well. Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased baking sheet; flatten with fork. Bake in moderately hot oven (400° F.)  8 to 10 minutes.

Makes 2 dozen cookies (2 inches in diameter).
