Pecan Brittle

Heat sugar slowly in skillet. Stir constantly with bowl of spoon until a golden syrup is formed. Remove from heat and quickly stir in salt, soda and vanilla. Pour syrup over layer of nuts in greased pan. When cold, crack into pieces.
