Caramel Cookies

Sift together flour and salt. Cream shortening and add gradually brown sugar and light corn syrup. Cream until light and fluffy. Blend in egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients gradually, mixing until well blended. Drop by teaspoonsful onto cookie sheet. Press each cookie flat with a fork. Bake in moderately hot oven (400° F.)  8 to 10 minutes.

Makes 4 1/2 dozen cookies.
